UTILIZING TECHNOLOGY IN THE WRITER'S WORKSHOP

They could use a web online during the prewriting phase.
Students could choose to post a specific question about their writing on a blog like this in order to get feedback from their peers. This would have to be for older students, of course, but what a good way to get students motivated to revise.
I would like to have a small group in my class using the computers instead of their writing folders every day during our writer's workshop. Each small group could be assigned a day of the week. (I may need an extra set of hands) :)
Prewriting: Students may use webs, graphic organizers, and other prewriting activities on a computer.
Drafting: Some students are more motivated and able to write when they are able to draft information on the computer.
Editing: Spell-check could be a useful tool.
Being in special education, I'd probably use it more often than not. Typing would especially help to save time when kids receive extended time on their IEPs. However I would have to be careful not to let the students become dependent on such devices.
Possibly allowing the students to do their draft on the computer if they would like. Possibly using a spreadsheet to keep track of who is working on what, when I met with them and so on. Also, I think spell check is a tool that could be used when editing.
You can use something such as Kidspiration or Inspiration to create prewriting webs and then transfer your web to an outline format.
You can use the smart board to create a paper with mistakes for the entire class to edit together.
There are several great websites offering graphic organizers for prewriting...I'll talk about those tomorrow in my presentation...:)
